See More about for Eliza. Also John was a twin, their mother was fullblooded Indian. Some records say his middle name is William and some say Wilson. Civil War records say he was 5' 10 1/2" tall,brown eyes, darkhair, and dark complexion. He was in Co. H 33 IND INF. He marched thruAtlanta with General Sherman

She died possibly during childbirth with Theodore while John was in theCivil War. John's parents, Silas and Sharlotta, took the child toraise. John lived with Silas and Sharlotta after the War to be near hisson, until he remarried and then he lived near by.

She is buried at Independence Cemetary in Jasper County, Indiana underthe name Harriet (Phillips) Hall.

Guardianship papers after Norval died said her name was SophroniaPhillips.Waive Chamberlain had 8 children listed here including a Charlieand a Charles, but not including Lena (that Rhonda had)--faultysomewhere????

142. McPherson PHILLIPS

Baptized into the Methodist Church in Medaryville, Indiana 19 August1883. He enlisted in the Spanish American War 25 April 1898 at Toledo,Ohio and mustered in 12 May 1898 at Columbus, Ohio for 2 years. He was a1st Sg't in Co. A-6th Reg't of Ohio Inf. Volunteers. He was 27 yearsold, 5' 11'' tall, light complexion, blue eyes, and black hair. He wasmarried and his occupation was Printer.
 

He suffered constantly from asthma, hayfever, and a hernia. He wasdischarged by order of the secretary of war by telegram 3 November 1898at Camp Poland, Knoxville, Tennessee.
 

He was a printing instructor at the Ohio Soldiers' and Sailors' OrphansHome in Xenia, Ohio.

He lived in Missouri, owned a farm there and lived there as late as 1940.

42. Abner PHILLIPS

He was in the Civil War Co E 4th ILL CAV and also a Pvt. Co C 29th Reg't IND. He enlisted at the age of 15 years, Dec. 2, 1861 for 3 years. Born in White Post Twp., a farmer, hazel eyes, brown hair, dark complexion, 5 ft 10 inches tall. He spent much time sick, reported as a deserter and agin in Kankakee, Illinois. November 30, 1863. Forgiven errors and granted a pension.

He is buried in the Sutton Cemetary. Death Record found in Starke County, Indiana book H-6 page 88.

Joseph Cox had the following on his tombstone (in the Sutton Cemetary)Co. 1. 20. IND.VOL.INF. He is in the "Hist. of C. L. Guild Post G.A.R.pg. 50". He was a farmer. The M.D. or coroner was J.C. Sharrer and the undertaker was Arthur C. Prevo. A Century of Achievement by John G.Reidelbach lists Joseph Cox as a member of Civil War Co. H 20 Ind. Vol.Inf.????

According to Waive Cox, who got it from the Cox relatives, he was raisedby a Catholic priest as a little boy. Some say he was a cripple. Eitherhis legs or slightly hunchbacked. Used to work a while then take of toride the rails or even walk. He always returned to Medaryville, Indianato see relatives and greet them with a "Hi! Ho!"

He was killed while walking along highway near Rensselaer, Indiana. Heis buried at Sutton Cemetary in rural Medaryville, Pulaski County,Indiana. Death record states his birthdate as 1869, but living relativesestablished his birth as 1871.

Waive Chamberlain reported that Metta Schultz said Lottie was quitestriking in her long black dress, black bonnet, and high topped shoes.Her children played with Lottie's step-son, John on "Teabury Hill".Garry Kasten remebered that she lived with Joe and Katie Ann Cox afterGeorge died. She is buried at Sutton Cemetary in rural Medaryville,Pulaski County, Indiana.
